Sterile Processing Manager
Salary or Pay Range: $107,100 - $224,100
The Sterile Processing Department’s operations involve the processing, sterilization, storage and distribution of instrumentation, supplies equipment, and durable goods that support Perioperative Services, and the ambulatory clinics and outpatient surgery activities at the UC Davis Health System. This position provides leadership of the department’s overall operations and is responsible for an annual operating budget and over 130 FTEs. This position has 24-hour accountability of general unit activities and functions. Ensures adherence to departmental policies/procedures/ regulatory requirements. Sets standards of care, quality of work and best practices. Ensures effective management of human, fiscal and physical plant resources. Seeks opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness of operational processes and productivity.
Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
• Candidates either must possess one of the following certifications sets A or B
• A-One Base Certification: CRCST from Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or CSPDT from The Certification Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD); AND one Advanced Certification: CIS from HSPA from Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA),CSIS from The Certification Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD), Certification in Endoscope Reprocessing (CER) from Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CFER) from The Certification Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)
• B- must hold a CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room) certification from AORN. Additionally, they must complete one (1) Base Sterile Processing Certification (CRCST,CSPDT) and one (1) Advanced Sterile Processing Certification (CIS,CSIS,CER,CFER,) within 1 year of hire.
• Bachelors degree or enrollment required in a relevant field including healthcare, nursing or management. If enrolled, must be completed within 3 years of hire.
• Eight (8) years of experience in sterile processing including five (5) years experience managing a sterile processing department or comparable leadership experience managing a perioperative/operating room unit or department
• Knowledge of The Joint Commission requirements, Title 22 rules and regulations.
• Knowledge of the following standards & recommended practices for the following professional associations: IAHCSMM (International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management), CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution) AORN (Association of perioperative Nurses), AAMI (Association of the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation)
• Demonstrated knowledge of central processing, sterilization, storage and distribution of instrumentation, supplies equipment, and durable goods.
• Demonstrated understanding of and technical background to ensure compliant central processing standards.
• Demonstrated leadership skills to oversee a central processing department that supports hospital perioperative and clinical units.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills to articulate concepts, convey sensitive information and give presentations in a clear and concise manner for the intended target audience.
• Demonstrated conflict management skills to facilitate
• Demonstrated problem solving skills to analyze complex situations, draw conclusions and develop possible win win solutions.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a significant budget, monitoring expenses, ensuring effective and appropriate use of resources.

• Ability to use computer programs for email, spreadsheets, to compose letters and documents, and to make presentations.
• Personnel management skills to mentor, coach, counsel staff and address performance/conduct issues.
• Sound decision making/judgement skills to respond quickly to changing patient care/staff needs. Knowledge of and ability to plan, organize, implement and evaluate work for self and others.
• Ability to interact and contribute effectively as a management team member.
• Knowledge of the proper use of surgical ins Knowledge of conducting quality assurance monitors Knowledge of emergent and routinely used equipment
• Knowledge of handling infectious waste and hazardous substances (chemicals used in cleaning, sanitation, disinfection and sterilization.)

Preferred Qualifications
• Masters degree in a related field
• Experience with a surgical instrument tracking program is preferred.
