Meet Makeba Spigner, CSPDT, CSIS, from Ohio!
First, I would like to say thank you the Board for your consideration of me, to be CBSPD Certificant Board Member, I am very excited for the opportunity. Six years ago, I was working in sales, doing very well but going nowhere, and not really feeling a sense of satisfaction, so I decided to make a career change. After researching for two years, I decided on Sterile Processing and that CBSPD would be the organization that would help me achieve my goal of certification. After receiving my CSPDT certification in 2016, I received three offers in my first month of being certified, this is when I knew Sterile Processing was for me. My first Sterile Processing job was at Community Tissue Service in 2016, which was a medical manufacturing position that I held for one and a half years, then decided I wanted move forward and work in an hospital setting. Working at Dayton Children’s Hospital, as a Sterile Processing Tech has been more rewarding then I could ever image. For approximately four years, I have worked using my skills and knowledge from CBSPD to comply with standard work practices and well as AAMI standards. I have attained and maintained processing goals relating to productivity and quality.
For the last four years, I have worked in the field of Sterile Processing and continued my education by earning my second certification, CSIS from CBSPD. In May, I will be taking the CSPM certification. With these certifications, as well as hands on learning, I am able to ensure safe effective levels of practice to protect the public. I always promote and encourage the education of Sterile Processing to the point of certification. Promoting good ethical guidelines and accountability, coupled with a eagerness to learn and do well, I think I would be a great fit for CBSPD Board.

GI Scope Nominee
Meet Lorraine Thornton, CSPDS, CFER, from Colorado!
I would like to nominate myself (Lorraine Thornton), for consideration for the Board Vacant position – GI Scope. I have over 20+ years’ experience in Sterile Processing in the hospital and Ambulatory setting. I am currently working in the capacity as a Sterilization and Reprocessing Director and a Sterile Processing Technician. I am driven and compassionate about Sterile Processing and have a strong focus for patient safety.
I am totally committed lo patient safety and am a strong advocate for Sterile Processing certification. Certification provides our profession with a level of achievement beyond the Basic Sterilization 101, and it requires continuing education to help develop skills and understanding of the manufacturer’s instruction for use and regulatory guidance. I feel certification and continuing education is a necessity in our profession, because we have found ourselves in a healthcare industry that is constantly changing in areas of computer/instrument technology and regulations.
I guarantee you that I will work hard to contribute to the success of the Certification Board.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Lorraine Thornton, CSPDS, CFER
